Recently, significant attention has been drawn to blood flow restriction (BFR) training. BFR involves low-load resistance training combined with partial BFR by using inflatable cuffs placed at the most proximal part of the exercised limb.
This 2-day workshop consists of both lecture and practical sessions focusing on: the evidence and the clinical applications of blood flow restriction, as well as the contraindications and precautions of its application.
Course format: Face to face lecture presentation and pre-readings, demonstration, practical, case-studies, discussion.
Learning outcomes: Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate understanding of the practical use, safety considerations, risks, and contraindications of the blood flow restriction training (BFRT). Moreover, participants will be able to identify, reason, and discuss the signs and symptoms within a clinical presentation that indicate and justify the application of BFRT. They will demonstrate skills and ability to assimilate and apply best practice evidence-based principles for the application of BFRT in clinical practice safely and effectively, to apply best practice principles for step wise rehabilitation with optimal tissue loading with BFR, and return to physical activity, training and/or competition participation after musculoskeletal injury and pathology.
Target audience: Physiotherapists, senior physiotherapy students, sports therapists, athletic trainers.
No of participants: 12 min pax, 25 max pax
