Kinetics Health Education LLC proudly presents the Otago Strength and Balance Exercise Seminar- Prevention of Falls in the Elderly "Otago Exercise Program (OEP)", for the first time in the U.A.E..
This training program is designed to enable the OEP Leader to develop the necessary understanding, competence and confidence to lead the OEP for the frailer, older person.
Aims/Objectives of the program:
- To understand the evidence for exercise in fall prevention in the elderly and where the Otago programme ‘fits’ within local exercise continuums.
- To identify why not all older people are the same, not all OEP Leaders are the same, and why not all strength and balance programmes reduce falls.
- To identify what works and doesn’t work when it comes to exercise to prevent falls.
- To apply the principles of exercise training in relation to older people.
- To recognise the opportunities of the OEP Leader in supporting behaviour change over-time (and achieve the required exercise dose to reduce falls).
- To develop the skills necessary to lead the OEP effectively to frailer older people with a high risk, or history of falls.
The fall prevention education program is delivered in 32 hours (online and practical) and comprises: the research evidence on health benefits of activity; risk factors for falls and strategies for prevention; the evidence behind and exercises contained within the Otago Exercise Programme and guidelines on the progression of the exercises to promote adherence and effectiveness. The "Otago Home Exercise Programme Booklet for Older People" is translated in many languages:

This training supports the principles of the EREPS Lifelong Learning Programme.
The OEP Leader can deliver and support the Otago strength and balance exercises to an older person on a one-to-one basis or within small groups.
The Otago Exercise Program for Elderly Falls Prevention (OEP) targets two groups of seniors: those aged 80+ for whom it has been shown to be most effective, and those aged 60 to 80 for whom it significantly helps prevent falls. For both categories, there are common criteria for inclusion and non-inclusion (eligibility). Moreover, the program has been implemented on patients with neurologic conditions and ADHD.
