This course is designed to transfer theory into practice with a focus on the development of Clinical Reasoning, using various case studies. There is a strong focus on ‘Systems Thinking’ to help clinicians identify those non-Musculoskeletal conditions that may be masquerading as such.

- Cauda Equina Syndrome
- Conus Medullaris Syndrome
- Primary & Metastatic Spinal Tumours
- Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression
- Pancoast Tumour
- Neurological Red Flags – including Myelopathy
- Vascular Red Flags – including Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
- Traumatic Red Flags – including Fractures
- Infective Red Flags – including Pyogenic and Non-Pyogenic
- Inflammatory Red Fags – including Axial Spondyloarthropathy
Course format: Lectures, online, discussion.
Objectives – learning outcomes:
- To equip attendees with the signs and symptoms of common serious and masquerading spinal pathology.
- To discuss and evaluate appropriate work up and pathways in relation to such conditions.
- To develop the clinical reasoning with a focus on ‘Systems Thinking’.
- To provide participants with advanced assessment skills in relation to the Neurological and Vascular systems.
- To develop a knowledge base and understanding around investigations such as MRI, X-ray and CT scans within the wider spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions.
